Nick recently relocated to Oahu from the mainland and brings over 20 years of guitar playing experience. Nick was raised in Sweden, graduated from G.I.T. in Los Angeles and worked with some of the best in the rock industry, including Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden, McBrain Damage), Dave Spitz (Black Sabbath), John Macaluso (Yngwie Malmsteen, TNT), and Dan Spitz (Anthrax). His technique and playing are unique and remarkable. Nick offers private lessons at Easy Music Center.

During his twenty year carreer in music, von Baron has enjoyed performing with artists like the Honolulu Jazz Quartet, Tennyson Stephens Trio, Don Ho, Shelly Berg, Betty Loo Taylor Trio, Matt Catingub and the Honolulu Symphony, Gabe Baltazar, Hiroshi Hata, Bruce Hamada trio, Jimmy Borges, Herb Ota Sr., Azure McCall, and Carlinhos de Oliveira. Originally from Kanasas City, von Baron atteneded the University of Missouri at Kanasas City Conservatory of Music for one year and the Berklee School of Music for two years. He holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Washington.

von Baron’s instructors include Jeff Hamilton, Joe Hunt, and Todd Strait. Some of the musicians who von Baron lists as important influences on his drumming include Jeff Hamilton, Ray Brown, Ahmad Jamal, Gilberto Gil, Teo Lima and Olodum. He recently released his debut solo album Pangaea which he describes as new age music on Steroids. Filled with music that is energetic yet soothing, von Baron enjoys creating music with a singular goal to bring more peace into our hearts and our world.

He will be covering topics including Roles and Responsibilities of a drummer, “You’ve got to sing to swing,” Jazz Brush Technique, Practice ideas and the composing drummer.
