Guitar Lesson in Pearl City – Want to learn Slack Key, Rock, or Blues?

Posted By Peter on August 28, 2010

Would you like to learn guitar or ukulele? Walter is a killer instructor. He can teach just about any style, but he is our only instructor that also specializes in slack key.  Please let us know if you are interested. He rarely has openings, but a bunch of his military students have left the island leaving him with availability.   He has some afternoon openings available on Tuesdays and Saturdays.  He charges $25 for a half hour.

About Walter Keoni Carvalhao:
Recognized Slack Key Guitar Master by the State of Hawaii on the Culture and the Arts, and the Hawaii State Legislature for his Perpetuation of Hawaiian slack Key for 20 yrs for Hawaii’s Department of Education. Keoni graduated from Kailua High School and University of Hawaii and went on to play with the U.S. Army Band and later played with the former Windward Symphony Orchestra.

Check out this cool app for the iPhone! The Benny Greb Drum Trainer lets you make tons of different backbeat combinations for practice or teaching. This app is really making my practice routine challenging, and I’m sure if I ever teach drums I’ll be using this app to help students out!

Stack your cymbals!

Gosh, don’t you just love that big, washy, trashy, in-your-face, cymbal sound that drummers like Thomas Pridgen and Travis Orbin of Periphery get? If you do, check out this video I made of different cymbal stacks. Cymbal stacks are exactly that: cymbals stacked on one another. These stacks give you new creative sounds you can use in just about any style of music.

Do you play metal? Hardcore? Two step? Create some super sick breakdowns with these stacks. I always get compliments on my stack at gigs- a no-name 13″ hi hat top over a 17″ zildjian crash with a pro mark rattler chain. Try it out, you’ll be surprised at how it affects the way you approach the kit!

Easy Music Center – Hawaii’s Second Place “Music Store”

Posted By Peter on July 13, 2010

The Star Advertiser dropped off this plaque at the store today. Second Place? Yes that is correct. We are the second best “Music Store” in Hawaii this year.  Itunes took first place!  The “Music Store” category is a strange one.  We aren’t a “Music Store” at all when it comes right down to it. We sell the tools to make music. I’d like to see the Star Advertiser adjust this category next year and have a musical instrument store category. It seems like apples and oranges the way it is now. Either way, THANKS FOR VOTING FOR US!!!

Easy Music Center closed on the 4th of July

We will be open on the 5th. Have a safe one!
