CatWongStudio Vocal Workshop and Showcase – Friday, April 27, 2012 – 5PM

Posted By on April 25, 2012

Come join us this Friday, April 27, 2012, at 5PM for a vocal workshop and showcase hosted by Cat Wong of CatWongStudio.

“How can I help a singer achieve vocal success? How can he or she find their own unique voice?”

These are some basic questions Cat Wong, Honolulu vocal coach & instructor of Cat Wong Studio, must answer every time a client comes in for a session.  Equipped with knowledge as a certified Speech-Level SingingTM (SLS) Instructor (Level 3) combined with 20+ years of off-and-on performing, 8 years of college-level teaching (Public Speaking & Critical Thinking), and a degree in Communication Studies, what better path is chosen than to pass on the right information to up-and-coming performers, musicians, and people who just want to sing. Period.

Speech-Level SingingTM (SLS) is an effective vocal training method that has been widely endorsed and practiced by over 120 Grammy Award winners, Broadway performers, and actors.  Artists such as Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Linkin Park, and Kelly Clarkson have used this method.  Now this same method and wisdom is accessible to the local community as a way of helping others sing in a relaxed, healthy, effortless way all those songs that are “out-of-reach” or just seem too difficult to sing.  If you have had your struggles or need more help, vocal lessons may be the key.

Cat has been mentoring voices since 2005 and has done commercial work, voice-overs, and is a community advocate for affordable housing.

Gypsy Fuzz’s first release, Searching. Finding. Living. is co-produced by Havrilla and renowned producer, Larry Crane (Cat Power, Sleater-Kinney, Elliott Smith…).   Layers of sound and dark lyrics take listeners on a journey from power-house rock on tracks like “Buzz Kill”, “Desire”, “Grace” and “Sail” to ethereal sounds on “Dance with Me”, “Over My Line” and “Foolish Lullaby”.

Gypsy Fuzz is fronted by Christine Havrilla on electric guitar, as she brings her aggressive, raw, trash-style playing well known by fans and critics alike from her solo projects.

Posted By on January 10, 2012

Come down to our Honolulu location on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at 5:00PM to hear some fresh beats from local producers.

Since 2005, the Lightsleepers, spearheaded by Kavet the catalyst, have been organizing The BeatRoot producer battles. This is the only known battle in Hawaii that pits producer vs. producer and beat vs. beat! Each battle consists of 8 producers that use production equipment ranging from AKAI MPCs to laptops. Each round is 1 – 2 minute beat each. The first round winners move on to the semi-final round, and the losers of the first round have to battle again to claim the wild card 4th spot. In the Semi-final round, the remaining producers battle to clinch a spot in the Finals! The finals consist of 2 rounds with each producer playing 2 – 2 minute beats. The winner of the battle claims a spot at the BeatRoot finals! BeatRoot brings a cool twist to the producers and beat makers in Hawaii and is a showcase for all of Hawaii’s producers!

If you would ever like to participate in the BeatRoot competition as a contestant or as an exhibitor, please email Kavet: lightsleepers@gmail.com
