Meeting George Benson and Getting to Play The New Ibanez LGB300-VYS at NAMM 2012

Posted By on May 12, 2012

Hey Easy Music Center fans, I had the opportunity to go to the NAMM show this year. It was an honor and a privilege to represent Easy Music Center. If you ever get a chance to go, do not miss out on the opportunity.  You will get to see great new products and see music legends such as George Benson.

Being an Ibanez dealer, I was afforded the opportunity to attend a semi-private demonstration with George Benson showing off his new Ibanez LGB300-VYS. This new hollow body jazz guitar by Ibanez is a true beauty. It has a rich full tone that will inspire the creativity of any guitarist. It features a 16.5″ body, wider neck profile, which works great for fingerstyle playing,  and Super 58 pickups in both the bridge and neck positions that handle everything from jazz to rock tones.

The coolest thing about this experience was that he asked if anybody wanted to try out the guitar right then and there. Yikes!  A couple of guys went up and played really well. George asked if one more person wanted to come up and try the guitar. I figured what the heck. Watch the whole video, but look out for me at 12:10. This was a surreal experience that I will never forget.

Let’s be honest.  How many of us are guilty of leaving out guitars lying around the house with the possibility that someone may trip over it?  Have you done string changes on your bed and used your pillow to prop up the guitars headstock?  With one simple package deal, your problems are solved!  While supplies last, Easy Music Center will be offering the GS414BN Hercules Guitar Stand along with a FREE Neck Cradle.  Now your guitar will have a designated place to call home while you’re not playing it and your string changes become strangely convenient.

Roland G-5-BLK VG Stratocaster

Posted By on May 6, 2012

I recently did a post on one of the James Tyler Variax guitars and immediately had to grab this gem by Roland and Fender. I was burning with desire to play it and compare its features. The Variax really impressed me with the instant tuning changes. The  Roland G-5-blk VG does not fall short in that area.

Both guitars really do the same tricks. Out of the box, I really did appreciate the aesthetics of the G-5 VG: the classic black color and  three single-coil pickup configuration makes this guitar nothing short of sexy! And, it sounds great too. That goes both for the (N) rotary knob selection – (N) standing for natural, or for straight up single-coil Strat circuitry – as well as the Roland COSM technology-powered, virtual Tele (T), Strat (S),  modeled Humbuckers (H), and acoustic (A) settings.

The guitar is really straight forward in selecting the sounds you need at any moment. And it feels, sounds and plays as well as an American Standard. Great job on this collaboration!

Texas tone just came home… Dunlop Eric Johnson Fuzz Face

Posted By on May 2, 2012

I have waited for this pedal for a long time!   Ever since I first heard Eric Johnson’s magic tone, I’ve wanted one. Well at least since I first learned that he used a fuzz face as part of his legendary magic tone . The funny thing is that I have never been a huge fuzz pedal fan until now. EJ worked closely with Fuzz Face guru Jeorge Tripps to create his signature pedal. It is inspired by EJ’s prized personal Fuzz Faces and is built to his incredibly strict specifications, featuring hand-selected BC183 silicon transistors (for higher gain), custom repro ’68-’69 knobs, and a vintage-style hammertone finish. The result: a beautifully dynamic, expressive, and powerful pedal. “I first heard the Fuzz Face when I was about 12 and loved playing through it,” he says. “It’s the classic tone used by Jimi Hendrix, one of my greatest influences. No other pedal gets this type of sound. It’s the pinnacle of psychedelic fuzz. In the accompamying video we have a quick clip by EMC customer Hale and his EJ rig minutes after hooking up this pedal and taking it for a spin.

Dunlop Straploks are for everyone. They allow you to securely lock the strap of your guitar to the body. If you are an aggressive performer, or just have an expensive instrument, these are invaluable!

In the video, we describe what parts come in the package, how to install them, and how easy it is to use your strap with these locks.
