Easy Music Center presents the Songwriter Series. The Songwriter Series is an event that focuses on the process of songwriting, showcasing talent from all-around the world. Each showcase will feature up to four artist, allowing each artist to play and explain several songs. We are very excited about this event, and hope to continue to have more.

Here is the lineup for 05/22/13.

Howard Nett | Des Moines, IA

Howard Nett has been writing and performing music for 25 years. He draws inspiration from all forms of art and daily life.  Currently he performs around Honolulu with his trio.  In past projects Howard has had the opportunity to share the same billings with The Roots, The Black Eyed Peas, KRS-One, and Maceo Parker.

Maggie McCain | Fairview, PA

Magaphone is the project of Pennsylvania native, Maggie McCain.  Magaphone originated in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Maggie began working on her PhD. on maximum entropy modeling of native plants. Her fascination with climate, science and surfing permeates her music, which she has officially labeled “nerd rock”.  She is self taught, has ventured across the country with her guitar and translates her experiences in life through scientific terminology and pure nerd-dom.  Major influences include the the Pixies, Weezer, and Kimya Dawson.

Ivory “IVO” Jenkins | New Orleans, LA

Ivory “IVO” Jenkins is an American record producer, songwriter, music publisher, and founder of IVO504 Studios.  Born and raised in New Orleans, LA, Ivory “IVO” Jenkins musical roots stem from his pentecostal upbringing and old school roots.  Always wanting to do more than just “Gospel,” IVO ventured off into various styles and genres of music. Studying his craft and evolving his God-given gifts and talents into something great.

Edward Nguyen | Honolulu, HI

Edward Nguyen is 23 years old and is from Hawaii. Edward has been writing music since high school. Music has always been a part of  his life. The first song he remembers listening to was “How Deep Is Your Love” by The Bee Gees, he recalls he was 3.  He  has been singing his whole life, but only picked up the guitar his freshmen year of high school. Music was only a hobby until his first heart break, never feeling so broken before, he picked up the guitar in a different way. He now performs around town: weddings, hotels, etc. My inspirations are The Cure, Bossa Nova, Kendrick Lamar, Cold Play. I am currently releasing a E.P coming out soon!

In the past month or so, I have been throwing various (mostly) guitar overdrive/distortion pedals in my signal chain in the search of a  crunchy, powerful rock bass tone.  This time I present to you the Way Huge Fat Sandwich.  Out of all the overdrive/fuzz/distortion stomp boxes I have tried, this one wins my vote.  If you are looking for a dirty and nasty fuzz tone that adds some really nice harmonic overtones, check out the Fat Sandwich.  Guitar players, don’t hog all of the cool stomp boxes…Let your bass player have some of the fuzz fun!
