Roland G-5-BLK VG Stratocaster

Posted By on May 6, 2012

I recently did a post on one of the James Tyler Variax guitars and immediately had to grab this gem by Roland and Fender. I was burning with desire to play it and compare its features. The Variax really impressed me with the instant tuning changes. The  Roland G-5-blk VG does not fall short in that area.

Both guitars really do the same tricks. Out of the box, I really did appreciate the aesthetics of the G-5 VG: the classic black color and  three single-coil pickup configuration makes this guitar nothing short of sexy! And, it sounds great too. That goes both for the (N) rotary knob selection – (N) standing for natural, or for straight up single-coil Strat circuitry – as well as the Roland COSM technology-powered, virtual Tele (T), Strat (S),  modeled Humbuckers (H), and acoustic (A) settings.

The guitar is really straight forward in selecting the sounds you need at any moment. And it feels, sounds and plays as well as an American Standard. Great job on this collaboration!

Dunlop MC404 CAE Wah, It’s the Wah you Wahnt!!

Posted By on February 22, 2012

The MC404 CAE Wah was developed by Bob Bradshaw of Custom Audio Electronics and the Cry Baby. I’ve been playing around with this Wah, and I have come to discover that it is very cool and different than most wah pedals available. One thing I’ve noticed is how quiet and transparent sounding it is.  I also noticed that it has a very wide sweep range. It features dual Fasel inductors with two voices (a low to high sounding sweep and a low to mid sounding sweep as well), and a built-in MXR MC401 Boost/Line Driver helps you maintain high gain levels for all out kinetic lead wah frenzy . It also boasts true hardwire bypass, a long-life CTS potentiometer, and internal pots for “Q” and gain adjustments, choice between a red and yellow fasel inductor , side-mounted kickswitches; bright LEDs on each side of the wah indicate operation status. Check out this quick demo.  Come down and try it for yourself!

EG-2-WHT Traveler Guitar

Posted By on January 5, 2012

The Traveler Guitar’s EG-2-WHT sports some really fun and well thought out features that enable you to travel with peace of mind and the possibility to play & practice your instrument in virtually any situation.   I once took a flight from the West Coast to London and was able to practice for the upcoming gig during the whole flight because I had no neighbor next to me, enabling me to bust out my Strat and pick away for 8 hours. On that trip, I was lucky to be let on the plane carrying my normal sized Fender – an occurrence that might happen on one out of four trips nowadays.

Now, imagine a guitar in a gig bag (included in this package) no bigger than a baritone ukulele. It has no head stock, since that is integrated in the body (check out that feature on the video to believe it!), and it has a Pocket Rocket preamp integrated in its pickup circuitry that let’s you plug in headphones as well as a media player for play-a-long. The Pocket Rocket feature actually lets you dial in a sweet clean tone and flip the switch to gritty, having a killer lead/crunch tone that you can also use as a boost feature when on stage.

Bottom line: I wish I had had that guitar, or any of the Traveler Guitar line, on the previously mentioned ‘practice’ trip. It would have made my life on the road a lot more fun and practical!  And if you aren’t a performer, but are just trying to keep up with your lessons and practice routine, this is the perfect thing to go on vacation with so you don’t let your skills get rusty!
