More on Nick Gertsson:

Nick Gertsson was born in Sweden. He moved to U.S.A. in 1992 to attend G.I.T. in Los Angeles.  After graduating from the school, he moved to Florida. In 2004, Nick formed the band V.O.X. (VoicesOfeXtreme) with bassplayer Bob Brennan. He moved to N.Y. where they started to play with Don Chaffin(vocals) and John Macaluso (Drums), managed by Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden drummer). The band started showcasing for all the big record companys…V.O.X. got an endorsment from ESP guitars and D’addario strings. V.O.X recorded “Hypocrite” in 2005. After doing a few tours and opening for bands like Godsmack, Disturbed, Alice in Chains and more , Nick moved to Hawaii in 2008 to pursue his music journey…

Nick is currently working at Easy Music Center (King st) as their Guitar instructor. He also teaching at The Performance Artist Academy in Kapolei. Nick met Michael Tanenbaum at the store. After sitting in at one of Michael’s gigs… they clicked! Later they formed “The Perfect Wave.” The Celtic slack key and the fusion guitar together takes you on a journey…

“Celtic Infused – Hawaii inspired music that pushes the edges of contemporary fingerstyle guitar playing”

Michael is a Celtic inspired instrumental guitarist based in Honolulu, originally from a city closer to the North Pole – Toronto, Canada whose geography and latitude are almost identical to Sweden’s, where his electric duet partner, uber-guitarist Nick Gertsson grew up.

Over the years in Hawaii, Michael’s music has flourished in new ways inspired by the power of the land, light and  ocean waters of the islands.  He found a new sound in the island’s Hawaiian Slack Key guitar music that resonated within him and was inspired to re-explore the guitar after 25 years at the piano. In time, he incorporated his northern music roots with the tranquility and beauty of his new home in a fusion of what he now calls locally, “Celtic Slack Key”. It’s Celtic infused and Hawaii inspired instrumental “guitar tapestries” that weave classical, jazz and Celtic styles together to create an atmosphere similar to film music.

His recent collaboration with Nick Gertsson has opened up new dimensions and given a shimmering melodic voice to the rich chordal harmonies and progressions that shape his compositions.
