Yamaha DXR and DXS Series Loudspeakers

Posted By on February 18, 2012

Just announced at the Winter NAMM 2012 are the new DXR and DXS series loudspeakers from Yamaha. All of the DXR speakers feature a 1100 watt D-class power amplifier module and a 3 channel intelligent mixer. The DXR series comes in 8 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch, and 15 inch speaker sizes. The DXS series sub-woofers include a 950 watt D-class amplifier module. This series comes in two models, a single 12 and a single 15 inch woofer. The advantage that these speakers have over other loudspeakers in this class is the built in DSP. The DSP not only protects the speaker from thermal and audio over load but ensures the best  sound quality possible is achieved. This DSP was designed in partnership with Nexo, one of the leading sound reinforcement companies in the industry. The speakers not only sound good but look good too. The DXR series is housed in a durable ABS enclosure, and the DXS Series is housed in a wood enclosure. These speakers can match any setting and have the right features for almost any sized gig. They are the only speakers you’ll ever really need. Check out the video below.

Numark NS6 scractching…quick look

Posted By on October 5, 2011

This customer was digging the tracking on the NS6 so much that I decided to film it. Sorry my hands are so shaky…This just scratches the surface (no pun intended) on the NS6. You have got to check this system out. If you are using Serato Live, you can switch to the itch! No more lugging around your crates and 1200s anymore. All you need is an NS6 and you are in there.  I’ve checked out more than a few of the itch controllers out there, and I think this one is the best.  Mixing is way too easy on this thing…yes…anyone can mix on the NS6.  I even taught my girlfriend how to mix on it in 5 minutes, and she doesn’t even play an instrument.

A few of my favorite highlights:

This thing has four decks!  You can mix four decks at a time, and access the 3 & 4 deck with the click of a button.

The resolution on the wheel is amazing.  At first, I didn’t like a non-moving platter, but once I got used to it, I prefer it way more.  I don’t think I could go back now.  So accurate…

It has XLR outs and not crappy RCA outs like other units out there.  That’s right.  Professional XLR balanced outs that you can connect direct to your powered speaker setup

The mixer can run as a passive mixer and not use a computer at all.  Yup.  You can hook two vinyl turntables (ground included on mixer!) and run it as a regular setup.  You can also use your ipod on one of the extra tables as a fail safe in case you run into computer problems.  The future of DJ is here and now!

The software is free and you get free upgrades!  You can download to multiple computers.  If that club you spin at has a house computer rig, you can set it up there and not bring your computer.  All you would need is your NS6 and your harddrive.

Headphone jack is 1/4 in. and 1/8 in.

The contour control is awesome on the fader

You can independently assign all 4 decks to the L or R on the fader.  Yes…it’s like a hamster switch on steroids.

All of your old Serato Live files will be compatible with Itch.  You can transfer over all those que points and all the work you did on your crates…

It’s a real fader, and you can replace and upgrade it.

It’s compact and fairly light, but it is still strong and sturdy and has a metal chasis…some other itch controllers are plastic

Alesis Multimix4 USB

Posted By on March 27, 2011

Here is the Multimix 4 by Alesis.  The feature that I like best is the phantom power, because not that many mixers this small have phantom power.  Another cool feature is the USB that you could use with your recording software – remember that it only sends a stereo line out.  This mixer is small and compact, comes with USB cable and power adapter,  and very easy to transport to gigs.
