Easy Music Center Jam Session – First Thursday – New Tradition

Posted By Peter on June 2, 2010

Jam Sessh!

This is kind of late notice for this month, but I would like to get a new tradition started here.

Every first Thursday is Jam Session Thursday at Easy Music Center King Street.  Customers were asking me to have the stage made available to them at designated times of the month.  I normally respond that the stage is open to everyone all of the time, but after thinking about it, I think having a dedicated Jam Session time every month is a good idea.  Of course, our stage really is open to you any time of the day.  People get up there and rock out all the time.  But, if you are a little bashful, or are hoping that other random folks will get up there too and fill in on different instruments, then come down on Thursday evenings from 5:00 pm to 6:30pm.  We will have the stage ready to go (we normally do anyway) with microphones, a guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums.  Just get up on the stage and get rocking!!!

Remember….every first Thursday of each month!  First one is tomorrow night!

Kamuela Kid and the Naksinator Getting Funky with it

Posted By Peter on May 27, 2010

YouTube Preview ImageI have the Korg Microsampler synced to the rhythm section of the Akai Mini-Ak here.  Naksinator is filling in drums on the MPC2500 as well.  The samples you hear are actually on the Korg, but the keys on the Mini-Ak are a lot more fun to play so I’m triggering them from the Mini-Ak.  The drum sound you hear triggered with the samples are a sequenced drum from the Akai Mini-Ak.  Each time I trigger the sample it replays the sequence, and it is synced from the tempo on the MicroSampler.  It sounds sick when you do that!  The Mini-Ak normally sells in the store for $499, but there is a $100 end-user rebate  coming up in June.  We will make sure to have some extra Mini-Ak in the store on hand.  The Mini-Ak is the perfect sound companion to an Akai MPC or something like the Korg Microsampler.  I love sampling vinyl, but sometimes you need to fill in the gaps of sound with something else.  You can download the rebate form now: Akai Pro _MiniAK Rebate 6_10.  The rebate starts June 1st.

BeatRoot finals 2010

Posted By Peter on April 7, 2010

The BeatRoot finals were awesome! We brought our system to Fresh Cafe, and Jericho did a great job running the sound. We kind of brought too much sound, but the end result was clarity. Rather than pushing a small system to 110%, we ran a very large system at 30%. I can’t remember the last hip hop show that I went to where you could actually understand what the mcs were saying. I got to see Jericho put the driverack system to use when he did the rta test mic on the room. He was able to dial in the sound for that room perfectly. The contestants were sick this year. There were a few exhibitor beat producers as well, and two of them had awesome live drumming and sequencing. Seeing Sentric perform again blew me away. The finals came down to Eat and Chris I. Ely won, but I really dug both of their beats. It was a great show. I’m in the bottom pix with Chris I (left) and Ely (right). Don’t miss it when we have the prelims in the store. You can really see what it takes to get to the top of the BeatRoot ladder !
