Roger Linn in Person! The man who created the first drum machine ever!

Some peopkle get star struck over the rock stars at the NAMM show.  I like seeing them in person, but I’m not really the type to run up and ask for a photo or an autograph.  However, when I meet a legendary creator like Roger Linn  – the man invented the first drum machine and helped design the MPC3000 and MPC 60 – I get pretty excited.  The NAMM show is a great place to meet the creators of sound!!!

From Wikipedia:

In 1979, Roger Linn revolutionized the world of electronic musical instruments by designing the world’s first drum machine to use digital samples, the LM-1 Drum Computer.[3] The LM-1 was the first drum machine to use samples of a real drum kit, though Roger Linn cannot recall exactly who the session drummer was that played the hits.[3] To further add to the mystery, an entry in the online museum of the Roger Linn Design company credits L.A. session drummer Art Wood with most of the samples.[1] Examples of the LM-1 in use can be found on recordings by Prince, Gary Numan, and Michael Jackson.[1] Linn Electronics released two other designs after the LM-1: the LinnDrum and Linn 9000, which became synonymous with the music of the 1980s.

Linn Electronics went out of business in 1986, at which point Linn was recruited by the Japanese company Akai to help in designing the MPC60, and later, the MPC3000.[1]

A while back I did a post confessing my love for a particular guitar I had acquired from our store , the ESP ST203-FR. I showed how I did a couple of tweaks and upgrades to make it rock out even better than it did off the rack  ( Dimarzio pickups, U.S. Floyd Rose, Giant brass block ) . I guess you can consider this the sequel to the demo I did a while back.  I wanted to let you hear the guitar in a more ideal situation…..LIVE!!!! Here is a quick video of me and my band Rock Opera Theater throwing down with my favorite axe.
